The genus and species 'Apractocleidus teretipes' was introduced by Smellie (1916) for a specimen now regarded as old-adult individual of Cryptoclidus. The taxon 'Apractocleidus' is therefore considered a junior synonym of Cryptoclidus and is a nomen vanum(?).
